Rain Gear

Please remember to send your child to school with jackets and footwear appropriate for this rainy season.  We do go outside as much as we can because the fresh air is so healthy.  We remind the  children to stay away from puddles if they’re not wearing rain boots.  It is difficult, though, to stay dry in regular shoes because our playground area becomes quite soggy.  Boots are really quite a necessary item at this point.

Please also make sure your child has an extra change of clothes (including socks) in their backpack or locker in case they should need to change into something dry.

Thanks so much!

Christmas Count Down

The children have been working on a Christmas countdown craft that will be coming home tomorrow.  It is a star with 24 links.  Starting on the night of December 1st have your child remove one link and enjoy counting down the days until Christmas!  It’ll be here before we know it!

Salvation Army Food Drive

The Salvation Army Food Drive begins Wednesday, December 1.

  • We are setting a $ amount goal as a school of $6000.00.
  • Students/families are invited to DONATE money to the food drive as the Salvation Army has more buying power than we do. All donations go to the SCHOOL OFFICE. Students and families can also e-transfer and debit. If we make our goal by Wednesday, December 15, we will celebrate by having an ANIMAL DRESS UP DAY the first Wednesday we are back in January!

Right now, the Salvation Army can use all the money they can get as they are taking the lead on meal efforts for flood relief, providing extra supplies for those affected by this current situation in addition to  continuing to fill the need for hampers and other needs this holiday season.

This Week

I pray that you and your families are safe and well and am looking forward to seeing all my Kindie friends again this week.

Please note that Jersey Day has been moved to this week on Wednesday.  Any team shirt will work.   You could even get creative with some masking tape if you want and make your own if you’d like.  Alternately, you can send your child in their uniform.

Also, remember that this Friday is a day off for parent-teacher interviews.    Please make sure you have signed up by clicking on the link below.

Home Activities, if you wish

Hello Families,

We are hoping that you are staying safe and dry. When we left on Wednesday, no one could have imagined that we would be in this position now. However, we know that God is in control. As Joshua 1:9 says, “….Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

You should have received an email last night from the Highroad Admin with some details regarding today. If you have not received it, please let the office know or check your email folders as it contains some important information about what is happening at Highroad Academy.

As many of our families, including staff members, are facing challenges, we are not focusing on academics right now. Rather, we are looking at ways we can perhaps serve others even in small ways. However, if you are looking for things for your children to do while at home, we have put together some activities focusing on kindness and ways to be thoughtful at this time. The pictures below have lots of activities attached that can be done at any age level. Clicking on the pictures below will bring up a larger image.

Students can also spend some time writing down their reflections on what is happening around them like a diary. Their writing can focus on what they are seeing, hearing and feeling.

These activities are entirely optional. We understand that there may be other priorities or even ways your family can be of service in your community that are more important.

Above, we are praying for you, and we hope that we get to be together again soon.

Family Theme

Our theme for the months of November and December is Families.  We have been talking about how our families are similar and different from each other and will be discussing the different roles and responsibilities within our families.  Next month we will talk about our family traditions.

To help us learn more about each family represented in our classroom I will be sending home some “homework.”  The first of these papers will come home in your child’s folder this week.  Please help your child think of something your family enjoys doing together and have your child draw a picture of it using at least 5 different colours.  Please record what the activity is (example: going for a walk, playing a game together) and send it back to school.

I am looking forward to learning more about each of our families in the weeks to come!

Poppies

On Wednesday students will be receiving a poppy to wear.  We will be collecting donations for our veterans.  Please send any donations to school in your child’s home folder.  Thank you!
