More Pumpkin Fun

Today in Bible we learned how God is like a farmer who picks a special pumpkin (us), cleans it up (our sin), carves a happy face (gives us joy), and puts a light inside (so we can shine His love).

Later on, in Math, we separated out the seeds…

and counted them by 10’s then used them to fill ten frames.

We discovered there were 311 seeds in our pumpkin!

While the children went to Music class I mixed the pumpkin seeds with some oil and seasoning salt and cooked them in an air fryer.  They smelled so yummy!  We enjoyed eating them at the end of the day!

Thank you, God, for pumpkins!

Our Leaves

Thank you so much for collecting so many great leaves and sending them in today!

In Math we looked at our pile of leaves and asked ourselves: “What Math lives here?”  We decided to sort our leaves by colour:

Then we ordered them by size:

We also used our leaves to make some art and learned about why leaves change colour in the Fall.

We’ll  continue our leaf explorations this week. They are pretty fascinating!

By the way, I gave the children a bit of “homework” today.  I had asked them if trees had all different kinds of leaves on them or leaves that were all the same.  Most of the children thought the leaves would all be different so I asked them to find a tree at home and check it out.  We will also be checking the leaves on our schoolyard trees to see!

Leaves

Fall is such a spectacular season where we live.    Our class has been interested in the changing colours of the leaves outside and are going to be taking a closer look at leaves next week.  Would you help your child collect some colourful leaves this weekend and bring them to school on Monday? We will be using them for a variety of activities next week.    Thanks so much and enjoy your extended weekend!

Applesauce

Thank you for sending in your apples for this week’s “mystery recipe”!

Halle, our high school volunteer, helped the children peel, core, and slice the apples.

It made a big pot.

Next, we added some sugar, cinnamon, and water and let it cook.

The children had some guesses about what we were making: apple syrup, apple cereal, apple dinner, apple pie, and apple sauce.  We had to wait until the afternoon to find out.

Ta da: It was applesauce!

The children all tried it and then reported if they liked it or not.
I sent the recipe home in case you’d like to make a batch of your own.

Single Letter Phonograms

Today was a very exciting day in Kindergarten.  We have officially been introduced to all of the single letter phonograms, saying their sounds (some have 3) and printing them with proper formation on our whiteboards each day!  This  does not mean that we KNOW them perfectly.  We will continue to review them in the weeks and months ahead.  It does mean that soon we will begin working on printing our own names using proper letter formations.  Yay!

I would like to encourage you to familiarize yourself with the Spalding Program we are using (if you are not already).  You can do this either by purchasing a set of phonogram cards at the office or by downloading two apps, Phonograms by SEI and Little Writer Tracing app.

A few minutes of review each day at home would be such a big help to your child and would set them up for a successful year.

Thank you for all you do!  You are very appreciated!
