Lessons in Self Control

There is a lot of work that goes into learning to function well as a Kindie class.  One of the books we read  recently was My Mouth is a Volcano.  It is written from the perspective of a young boy who has lots to say but finds himself interrupting a lot or blurting out.  He eventually learns what to do to be more polite.  There are several versions of this story on YouTube if you’d like to check it out.

It takes self control to keep our words inside and to handle so many other situations.  We did a test today to see if we could use self control.  First, I blew some bubbles in the classroom and let the children jump and pop them.  Next, I asked them to NOT pop the bubbles when I blew some more.  Guess what?  The children were able to use their self control and do what I asked!  I was so proud of them.

I hope it is helpful to know what’s been discussed at school.  Maybe as issues come up at home some of this language could be of help.  Have a great long weekend!

We All Matter

Today we talked about how we are all loved by God and made special by Him.  Each one of us matters.  School should be a place where every child feels safe and happy.  Just look at those happy, sweet smiles!
