Teachers

I was so impressed with how well the children did today with the full day of school.  They probably came home super tired!  That is a common experience in these early weeks of Kindergarten.  Your child is learning so much about school life.  Soon the structure of each day will make so much more sense and the days will seem to fly by.  Hang in there!

Your child’s week will include visits to the library, gym, and music room.  I want to make you aware of some of the special people that will play a role in your child’s days here at school.

Mrs. Caswell teaches the Kindies Music.  We visit her in the garage (a classroom above the gym) twice a week, on Monday and Wednesday afternoons.

Mrs. Britz is our library teacher.  Our class will visit her in the library on Wednesday mornings.

Our class enjoys two PE classes each week (Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons) with the full time Kindergarten class.  Mrs. Larsson and I alternate leading these sessions.

What a wonderful list of caring teachers!  Your child is blessed!

Labels

Just a reminder to please label your child’s cardigan as well as their jackets and shoes.  These items are often removed and left in random places.  They can be so pricey to replace and a simple name on the tag is so helpful to reunite them with their owners if left outside, for example.

Gym Shoes

Tomorrow we will be having our first gym class.  Our gym days are Tuesdays and Wednesdays this year.  Your child will need a pair of gym shoes that stay in their locker for these classes.  Velcro or slip on shoes are recommended, something that your child can put on by themself.  Gym shoes can be any colours but we ask that you avoid ones with flashing lights, please.  Thanks!

Washroom Signal

Because I am not always able to answer every hand and don’t want to miss a child who is in desperate need of a bathroom break I have given the children a special signal.  It is the sign for the letter “w”.  If I see a child with their hand up like this I will know that they need to use the washroom and will let them slip out to do so. Please remind your child of this procedure.  Thanks!

To help reduce the number of children leaving the classroom first thing in the morning please make sure that your child has gone before the school day begins.  The children are encouraged to go before recess, lunch, and after outside play.  Having said all that, sometimes accidents still do happen so I am asking that you send an extra set of play clothes along to keep in your child’s locker just in case.  Thank you!
