Fall Colours Homework

I hope that you and your family have had a wonderful weekend.  Fall is such a spectacular season even in the rain!  Our class has been interested in the changing colours of the leaves outside and are going to be doing an inquiry into the “Colours of Fall”.  So, I have a little assignment for you.  Would you help your child to choose an object from nature that shows one of the colours of Fall?  It could be a red leaf, a brown acorn, a yellow squash, an orange mini pumpkin etc.  Your child can put their object in their cubby when they arrive at school on Monday or Tuesday.  We will sort our collection of objects on Tuesday afternoon.  Thanks so much for your help with this!  See you tomorrow!

Soup Picnic

On October 31 the highschool foods class will be cooking a soup picnic lunch for us with veggies from our HRA garden. The students will be served a bowl of chicken noodle and vegetable soup and a bun with butter. The foods class is asking that our Kindie class bring in carrots to add to the soup. They will be cooking on Thursday, October 26th. If you are able to bring a carrot on or before October 26th, please let me know! Also, October 31st is a pizza Tuesday so pizza will be available that day as well.

Pumpkins

Today we had lots of pumpkin fun!  First, we studied our pumkin and drew a picture of it.

Next, we measured it with cubes.

Later in the morning we sorted our pumpkins (stems/no stems, big/little) and used our 5 senses to describe our pumpkins.

In Bible we learned how God is like a farmer who picks a special pumpkin (us), cleans it up (sin), carves a happy face (gives us joy), and puts a light inside (so we can shine His love).

We had fun exploring the slimy pumpkin insides!

We also tried hammering golf tees into a pumpkin in our sensory table.

Yay, for pumpkins!

Pumpkin Patch Volunteers

Thank you to all who offered to help on Tuesday’s field trip.  I have Ginny Klassen, Chantelle Munro, Heidi Lueck, and Leah Riley helping to lead a small group of children.  These parents will not need to pay admission but any other parents and siblings over 3 will need to pay $9 (I believe) upon arrival at the farm.  Parents can meet us at the Corn Maze at 9:30 am.  We will be getting back on the bus at 11:30 to head back to the school.  Our pumpkins will come with us and will stay at school for one extra day so that we can do some fun math and science activities with them.

What to Wear this Week

Monday: full dress uniform + a smile 😀 for Picture Day.

Tuesday: play clothes + appropriate footwear and jacket for Corn Maze field trip.  Could you also send along a plastic bag (maybe doubled) labelled with your child’s name?  Just tuck it into a pocket in their jacket.  Thanks!

Wednesday: Full dress uniform (cuz that’s what we wear on Wednesdays!)

Uniform Tidbits

Tomorrow is our first official “full dress” uniform day.  This means long pants, button down shirt, and cardigan for the boys and button down shirt, tunic, and cardigan for the girls.

Please note that the last day for the summer uniform will be October 31st.

Bring a Leaf, Please!

I trust that you have had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend.  We have so much to be thankful for!

It will be a very short week for us – one day!  So, we will be off and running to get as much done as possible!  On your way to school in the morning could you help your child collect a leaf and bring it to class?  We have been talking about what scientists do and will be investigating our leaves like scientists tomorrow.  If you are able to bring a couple of extra leaves in case someone forgets, that would be great!  See you tomorrow!

Parent Help Needed

Just about all of the permission slips have come in for the Corn Maze.  Thank you for being so prompt!  With only one day of school next week (Wednesday) our field trip will be here before we know it!  I am still in need of some parent help on that morning (Tues., Oct. 17th).  Our time there would be between 9:30 and 11:30.  If you think that you could join us and wouldn’t mind supervising a small group of children, please let me know.  My email is dmorris @highroadacademy.com.  Thanks again!
