This Week

There are a few things happening this week that I wanted to mention:

1.  There will be a Scholastic Book Fair happening in the lobby this week, Tuesday to Thursday.  It will be open for business before and after school on each of those three days.

2. Remember that Wednesday is Knight Day so the children may wear their knight shirts and casual bottoms.

3. We are having another after school club this Thursday from 3:15-4:15.  All K-3 students are welcome to stay for some Science fun!

Crazy Hat Day

Hopefully you have seen the reminder on our door that Thursday is Crazy Hat Day for primary students! Please dress your child, as usual, in their uniform but feel free to get as creative as you want in the hat department!  There will be a small prize awarded for the “craziest hat” in each class.  I’ll be sure to post a fun class photo.  Stay tuned!

Bottle Drive Reminder

Just a quick reminder that if you were planning to participate in the bottle drive for Guatemala tomorrow is the day, before or after school.  There will be team members to help you unload near the portables.  Alternately, you can drop off your collections Saturday between 10 and 2.  Thanks!

Guatemala Donations

It is the desire of our school that the whole student body would feel part of the missions outreach to Guatemala this year.  Each of the primary classes has been assigned a team member who comes to visit the children and get to know them.  They are able to answer the children’s questions and the children, in turn, are able to pray for that student and have a more tangible connection to the missions project.  Our team member is a grade ten student, Julianna Tschetter.  The student body also has an opportunity to contribute small items that will be donated to the Guatemalan people.  Here is a list of the items we are looking to collect:

pencils

pencil crayons

rulers

erasers

scissors

small cars

small stuffed animals

bouncy balls

face clothes

small soaps

tooth brushes

small tooth paste

hairbrushes

combs

small dolls

children’s clothing

children’s shoes

twin sized sheets

baby clothes

Items can be new or gently used and can be dropped off in any of the classrooms.  Thanks!

Kindie Shoes

Recently, the policy of inside/outside shoes has come up for discussion. It seems that this long-standing routine originated during the years that kindergarten was taught in the “Kindie House,” now used for the preschool. Since we are now in the main building it would make sense that the Kindies follow the same procedures as the other primary children. So, it has been decided that we, like the other classes, will change our shoes only for gym. Our inside shoes will now be used for gym purposes and our outside shoes will be used at all other times. The exception to this would be winter or rain boots. These can be worn to school and changed into for recess and lunch but cannot be worn in the classroom. If you would like your child to wear boots outside then they will need to change into their school shoes before entering the classroom. We are looking forward simplifying the daily routines of our Kindie day and appreciate your understanding in this matter.

Bottle Drive

This Spring Break our family has the awesome opportunity of travelling to Guatemala with the Highroad missions team.  While we are there we will be helping to build a school and will be doing a VBS outreach to the children of the community.

To raise money for the building project we will be having a bottle drive at the school on Saturday, January 16th from 10am – 2pm.  We would love it if you would consider donating those empty bottles and cans left over from the holiday festivities!  If you would like to save yourself a trip to the school on Saturday you may drop off your bottles to the school either before or after school on Thursday, January 14th (Friday is a Pro-D day).  The bottles will be stored in portable #3.  There will be team members available to help with unloading.

On behalf of the team, thank you for your support!

Home Routine

We are trying to find a good system for collecting and bringing home all of our belongings at the end of the day.  Today we have packed our backpacks and changed our shoes BUT we have left our backpacks and coats in our lockers.  This will hopefully free up little hands for great badges at the end of the day and will help our classroom stay a little more organized until going home time.

Missing Uniform Pants!

I seem to be missing a couple of pairs of uniform pants/shorts that I like to keep on hand for “emergencies”.  If I lent a pair to your child in the last while and you happen to still have them at home would mind returning them to class in the next few days?  Thanks so much!
