We are having a special hot lunch on Valentines day to raise money for the highschool missions trip to Thailand.  This will take place INSTEAD of pizza on this day.  If you would like your child to have a hot dog and/or fries please fill out the pink order form (that came home in your child’s folder today) and return it to the school with your payment by Thursday, February 9th.

On Spring Break our High School Missions Team will be going to Thailand. They have asked for our help in preparing the team to bless the people of Thailand. Our goal is to fill up a suitcase with the following items:

1. School supplies: new and gently used – pencils, erasers, pens, paper, scissors, crayons and pencil crayons.

2. Personal Hygiene items: travel or sample size – tooth paste, shampoo and conditioner, soap, deodorant. Full size tooth brushes are good.

I made a mistake.  Math Mayhem is next Tuesday evening, not Monday evening!

The HRA Math Department would like to invite you and your family to attend a fun evening of games in the gym on Monday, January 31st from 6:30 – 8:00 pm.  The grade 10 and 11 Math students have been busy preparing all kinds of fun activities and would love to see you there!

Now that the freezing temperatures seem to have passed we will be expecting children to be wearing their full dress uniform on Wednesdays again. Please don’t worry if your child was not prepared today.  We’ll try for next week!

Next week, Tuesday – Thursday, our school will be hosting a book fair in the front lobby before and after school.  A pamphlet is coming home today in your child’s folder.  If you fill out the coupon on the back and enter it in the draw next week you just might win $25 in books for yourself and our classroom!

Here are some important dates coming up that you’ll want to mark on your calendars:

January 19 – Beach Day

We are planning to ignore the freezing temperatures outside next Thursday and dress for the beach!  No bathing suits, please, but shorts and t shirts (over long pants and shirts if necessary) and beach accessories would be completely appropriate for the occasion!  Brrr…hoping it warms up just a bit before then!

 

January 25 – Knight Day

Your child may wear their Knight t shirt and jeans or other casual bottoms.

Happy New Year everyone!  I hope that you and your family had a wonderful Christmas holiday!  It’s always nice to have a break from the schedules and routines of the school year.  Hopefully, after two weeks off the kids are well-rested and ready to come back.  It’s going to be a great year ahead!

Before we look ahead too far I want to say a big “thank you” for all of your lovely Christmas cards and gifts.  Wow!  I felt so blessed by you kind words and generosity!  It is really such a privilege to work with such awesome, supportive families!

The start of a new year is a great time to take a look at things and to make changes.  I’d like to suggest a small change to how the children are dropped off for their Kindergarten day at school.  In the next week or so I would like to have the children come into the classroom on their own at the start of the day after parents have had a chance to say their goodbyes in the hallway (with kisses and hugs as needed!).  At this point in the year the children know their morning routine and are all ready, I feel, for this step of independence.  I understand that it might take a little while to transition some of the children into this new routine.  No worries.  Thanks for your understanding and help with this!
