One More Week to Fill a Suitcase for Thailand

In two weeks a group of grade 10-12 Highroad students will be headed to Thailand to serve, minister to, and bless the people there.  One of our very own part time Kindies, Jairus, will be going too since his parents are leading the team.  This will be such an exciting experience for them!

We would love to help them out by sending them with a suitcase filled with school supplies and travel sized toiletries.  If you are able to help that would be great!  We have about one more week left to donate items.  Go Team Thailand!

Farm Kids fieldtrip

We’re all getting pretty excited about our fieldtrip on Thursday.  This program is really aligned with our BC curriculum goals so will tie in very nicely with some of the topics we’ve explored in our Families unit this year.  So, it will be a bit of a drive to get there but we will prepare ourselves with activity booklets and travel game ideas and will embrace the adventure that it will surely be!

We will need to be boarding the bus as close to 9 am as possible.  So, please have your child at school by 8:45 if possible.  We will keep our jackets on and will bring our lunch kits and water bottles into the classroom where Mrs. Morris will collect them in a bin to bring on the bus with us.  Remember to send along easy-to-eat-on-a-bus food items.  Thanks!

The children may wear comfortable play clothes.  Since we may be outdoors for part of the program please send them in appropriate footwear, boots if possible.

If you have any questions feel free to ask or email me at dmorris@highroadacademy.com.

Valentines Day

Please remember that your child may wear casual clothes tomorrow in Valentine colours (red, pink, purple, and  white).  We will be handing out our Valentines first thing in the morning.  If your child has something to hand out please plan to stay for a few minutes to help them.  Each child will have a special holder on their desk for their cards and treats.

Tomorrow is also our “Love Thailand” lunch of hotdogs and fries for those who pre-ordered.  This will replace our usual pizza Tuesday lunch.  We will have a little Valentines snack and “movie” in the afternoon.

Happy Valentines to you and your loved ones!

Volunteer Opportunity

At the end of each day (2:45-3:00) I like to have the Kindies spend some quiet time with their book baskets, “reading to self”.  This might look like children retelling themselves a familiar story, reading the pictures, or beginning to sound out simple words.  I know some of you have expressed an interest in coming to help out in the classroom and I thought that this time of the day might lend itself well to parent involvement.  If you have the time in your schedule and would like to come and listen to the children read please let me know!

Farm Kids Fieldtrip

On Thursday, February 16th our class will be going on a fieldtrip to Historic Stewart Farm (13723 Crescent Road, Surrey) where we will step back in time and experience life as it was at the turn of the century!  We will leave the school at 9 am and should be back by 1 pm.  We will plan to eat our lunch on the bus on our way home.  Please pack a lunch that won’t be too messy (maybe no puddings or yogurt tubes on this day!) and that doesn’t require heating up.  A water bottle is also preferred for this day over juice boxes.  Thanks!

I am looking for six parent helpers for this outing that would be able to supervise a small group of children as they travel through their stations/activities at the farm.  Please email me at dmorris@highroadacademy.com if you are interested in coming along to help.  Unfortunately, because of building capacity limitations, there is not room for any extra parents and sibblings.  You may, however, freely explore the property on your own while we are inside.

I will be sending a permission form home on Thursday of this week.  Please sign it and return it to the school by next Thursday, February 9th. Thank you ever so much!
