ABC Dental Visit

This morning the Kindie classes enjoyed a visit from ABC Dental.  We listened to a story called Sugarbug Doug and talked about what kinds of food sugar bugs like.  We learned how long we should be brushing our teeth (2 minutes!) and put on a timer and practised.  We were given a goodie of dental treats.   Please check your child’s backpack when they get home.

April Dates

How is it April already?

Here are some important dates to add to your calendar:

April 7- Good Friday (no school)

April 10- Easter Monday (no school)

April 26- Grandparent’s Day! K-3 (1-2:45)

April 28- Professional Development Day (no school)

Grandparent’s Day

On Wednesday, April 26 Highroad Academy will be hosting a special Grandparent’s Day.  All grandparents are invited to join us for an afternoon of refreshments, entertainment, and classroom visits.  Your child is coming home today with an invitation.  If you would like more for a second set of grandparents please let me know.  Also, if your child doesn’t have a grandparent to invite or if they live too far away please feel free to invite another family member or friend in their place.

Spelling Words

This week we will be starting a weekly spelling routine.  Don’t worry; there won’t be any tests!  Each week the children will be given a list of 5 spelling words that we will practice in class, learning how to stretch out each word and find the first, middle, and ending sounds.  These words will become the base of our sight word collection that we will read to ourselves regularly.  Please continue to work with your child if they don’t yet know most of their single letter phonograms by this point.  It is very exciting to be at this stage where the children can see how they can use their knowledge of individual sounds to read and to write!
