Celebration of Learning – Term 2

Your child has been learning so much in Kindergarten this year and would love to “show off” a little!  Next week on Tuesday afternoon we would like to invite parents to come for the last 15 minutes of the school day (2:40-2:55) so that we can show you our spelling word routine.  You’ll be amazed and so proud, I’m sure!  We hope to see you there.

Zones of Regulation Parent Seminar

Just a reminder that this Wednesday the primary teachers will be hosting a parent session after school to introduce a program that we have been using called the “Zones of Regulation”.  It will begin at 3:15 and should be over by 4:15 at the latest.  There will be childcare provided.  If you would like to take advantage of the childcare option please email me this evening at dmorris@highroadacademy.com letting me know.  Thanks!

Service Day Reminders

Tomorrow (Tuesday) is our Elementary “Service Day” and we are very excited about it!  Thank you to Mrs. (or Mr.) Harrison, Mrs. Bochtler, Mrs. Kerdachi, Mrs. Riley, Mrs. Klassen (maybe), and Mrs. Lueck (and Chloe) for volunteering to help us.  Please meet us in our classroom at 9:25 for some quick instructions before we get on the bus together.  We should be finished and back at the school by 10 am.

Please note that the students will be wearing their uniforms for this activity.  If you have not yet signed your child’s permission form please do so after school.  I have extra copies.

Missed April Dates

Tuesday, April 24: Service Day

As you might know, our class verse this year is Matterw 5:16:  “Let your light shine.”  Service Day is a great opportunity to go outside of our classroom and be “shiney” for Jesus!  Our class will be involved in several service activities on this day, including planting marigold seeds for the highroad garden and lollipop bombing a nearby parking lot!  We are looking for 4-5 parent volunteers to help us between 9:30 and 10:00 with the second activity.  We will travel by bus to a nearby parking lot and will be placing lollipops on the windshields of the cars there with an encouraging note.  We would like to have an adult for every three children for this activity.  I will be sending a permission form home tomorrow (Tuesday).  Please return it by Wednesday, if possible, indicating on the form if you are able to help us with our outing.

Wednesday, April 25:  Zones of Regulation Parent Meeting

The primary teachers will be hosting a parent workshop after school to talk about a program we are using in our department called the Zones of Regulation.  Maybe your child has been talking about being in the “yellow zone” or the “green zone”!  Come find out what that’s all about.  More information to follow.

Monday, April 30 – Class photo day.

Full dress uniforms are required.

Weaving Fun and Learning

This was one of seven centers the children visited today for First Nations Day.  We learned about weaving today from Salish Weaver, Mrs. Frieda George.  The children all helped contribute to a weaving project she brought with her (using sheep wool) and also did some paper weaving.  It was a great day!
