Welcome!

I am happy to officially welcome you to this year of Kindergarten.  We’ve all survived the first week so we are off to a great start! The first few days and weeks can be quite tiring as we are learning new routines and adjusting to the long school day. I was very proud of the boys and girls last week and could see that they were all trying very hard to follow direction and to do their very best. Good job, Kindies!

On Thursday your child left our classroom with their first great badge. Yay! You will want to determine a spot for collecting these.  When your child has accumulated 10 badges send them back to school in a labelled baggie and they will be exchanged for a small prize! If you notice that your child does not earn a great badge one day please feel free to ask me about their day. It is my hope that this system will help to keep us all accountable for our behaviours as we learn and grow this year.

Individual school photos are happening this week on Wednesday. Please dress your child in their full dress uniform. This means the button down shirt, cardigan, and long pants for boys and the button down shirt, cardigan, and tunic for girls. By the way, the Kindies are usually called to have their pictures taken first thing in the morning before we have had a chance to mess ourselves up. This is a very good idea!

Our library day this year will be Wednesdays with Mrs. Britz. Each child will have a special library bag for bringing books home. We recommend that you store Highroad library books in this bag while they are at home to prevent them from getting lost or mixed in with your child’s personal collection. On Wednesday mornings I will put a special box out in the hallway. Please remind your child to place their books in the box so that they can be returned to the library.

You may have heard that Tuesdays are pizza days at Highroad. If you would like your child to have a slice of pizza on a particular Tuesday would you please fill out the form that will be hanging on a clipboard outside of our classroom? Please include your child’s first and last name, what type of pizza they would like, and whether you are paying by cash ($2 a slice) or have purchased a pizza card at the office. There will be an envelope attached for monies.

Phew, that was a lot of information to throw at you all at once. It will all begin to make sense as we get into the routine of things. I will try to update the blog on a regular basis. Please check back often so that you don’t miss any important information. I am looking into getting you all subscribed so that you will receive an email when a new blog is posted. I will let you know if I get the thumbs up on this!

I am looking forward to this week and am praying for a smooth transition into our full day schedule.

Bless you,

Mrs. Morris
